Course levels explained
Levels range from basic to advanced according to the European Framework language portfolio. The following descriptions are guidelines and entry tests are available to help students select the right level.
Beginners/Stage 1
For people with no previous knowledge or experience of Italian.
Elementary/Stage 2
For people who have followed a beginners course, or those who have studied the language a long time ago, or learnt a little while in Italy.
Intermediate/Stage 3
For people who have followed a stage 2 course, or have a fair knowledge of basic grammar and vocabulary and are able to participate in conversations of a factual type.
Advanced/Stage 4
For people who have a good knowledge of the language and/or have spent some time living in Italy, and feel reasonably confident speaking in most common social environments.
